What we built
We took our microelectronics standards and applied them to every stage of fiber production. Contamination protection during drawing, engineered through class 10 cleanroom conditions at the drawing tower and a unique approach to tower installation. Specialty gas and chemical delivery, engineered from source to point of production. Full gas box control systems for our F/MCVD, SPCVD, and POVD equipment, governing the flow and pressure of every gas and chemical entering the process.
All of it backed by control systems built for one outcome: fully repeatable, fully stabilized production, every time.
The result is Fiber Optic Production 2.0 — FOP 2.0 — our technology for producing optical fiber at a standard the current industry was never built to meet.
Full-stack manufacturing, not assembled equipment
UPC is the only OEM capable of manufacturing SPCVD and POVD process equipment. That's not a supply relationship — it's a capability nobody else in the industry has.
We design and manufacture the complete production line in-house, with nothing outsourced: preform manufacturing systems (F/MCVD, SPCVD, POVD), drawing towers built for telecommunication fiber, specialty fiber, slow-speed drawing, and rotating preform configurations, rare earth material evaporators, coating systems for PI, metal, carbon, and Teflon, coloring systems, quartz working lathes, proof testers, and preform handling equipment.
Every system is designed, engineered, and built by our own team — informed by our scientific partners' research and our own decades of hands-on production experience, not by working inside conventional fiber factories that were never capable of this level of precision in the first place.
To bring full control over process equipment and technology under one roof, UPC partnered with a leading manufacturer of fiber optic process equipment — combining two companies' cutting-edge technologies into a single, unified production platform. That partnership gives systems and applications designers what the specialty fiber market has been demanding and unable to source: precise process repeatability, at industrial scale, at quality levels no conventional producer can certify.
We've applied this technology across the full range of fiber production — specialty fiber, high-end telecommunications fiber, and fiber cable — with every facility designed in-house, to the same standards that govern microelectronics manufacturing.
